The Writer’s Desk

My Bookshelf

This thread is about all things writerly. The opinions expressed are mine and therefore will be disputed by every other writer in existence. We scribes, after all, tend to dismiss other hacks lightly. That said, if you want an opinion to disagree with, read on.

Along the way I will share insights gained from my thirty-year misadventure in the creative world. There will be much griping about the industry. All writers complain about the industry, it’s expected. There shall be arguments made for this writer’s genius; us authors tend to believe we’re Shakespeare’s younger brother or sister.  And there will be a campaign against the discrimination of bald, middle-aged white men, simply because of their suspected non-vegan proclivities. Not even having only one hand can save me from falling into this category.

So, who is the Guy with the Hand? And what qualifies him to write this blog? Jim Clarken is a published and broadcast writer whose work has appeared in Script Writer magazine. He has attended UCD’s School of Film and reached the final stages of the Blue Cat Screen Writing competition. He writes primarily for stage and screen but has recently turned his attention to the novel form. His work comes recommended by Hollywood reading services and as a result has been requested by Tinsel Town producers. His play Cocksure has been banned by The Attic, so he must be doing something correctly. He is also a producer, film maker and content provider. His short “Work Life Balance,” can be seen on YouTube.    Under this category I will expand on some of my experiences, delve into the writing process and explain the importance of structure in story.
